Lizo Madinga

control and responsibility

When seventeen-year old Lizo became a peer facilitator in the Rainbow Youth Group, he was building on his own development as a person. After being a Boy Scout for six years where he honed his practical skills, he now seeks a place where he can express his personality.

"From when I was five years old, I loved to draw. My friends and family admired my artistic ability, but it was only last year that I decided to go to art classes."

Now Lizo would like to pursue one of the creative professions such as car design or clothing design, or to fulfil his dream of becoming a recognised South African artist or painter.

He feels the Rainbow Youth Group has given him the chance to understand and work with people. He has attended various camps and workshops where he has learnt to take responsibility for himself and others, and how to work together in a team. What he appreciates about the QPC youth activities, is that they are both challenging and fun.

As a youth leader Lizo has learnt to tolerate people's differences. "Some people only participate when there is a QPC facilitator, they won't listen to peer facilitators. When people are not behaving well, I don't see it as a problem. I just know some people don't want to participate."

Lizo would like to go on being part of the RYG for a year or two, so he can develop himself. "The best thing is that they are giving people a chance."
