Gender

Objectives

• increase the role that women can play in peace-building and conflict resolution

• promote the role that women can play in peace-building at the level of community conflict, on community policing fora and in organizations such as schools

A Gender Reconciliation workshop facilitated by the Satyana Institute took place in April for 27 participants. Following the workshop, a network has been set up to build on the strengths gained at the workshop.

QPC participated in a discussion at the Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR) on the United Nations Development Fund for Women report 'Women, War and Peace' and the gender team participated in a meeting at CCR on gender issues and gender relations in peace-building. We participated in a meeting at the Mowbray police station on how the police can serve women better. At the Gender Commission office a discussion explored ways forward for the protection of women and children. Dates have been set for the training of a group of women and men from the 'Healing Through Art' project of Delft in gender issues.
