Alternatives to Violence Project Support

Objectives

• promote the use of the AVP Project within QPC

• work with AVP Cape Town to raise the profile of, and to promote the use of, AVP in schools, NGOs and prisons in and around Cape Town

A meeting was arranged to address the concern of AVP Cape Town that other AVP trainers would be sidelined if QPC were to run AVP workshops on its own. The training was arranged to include prospective AVP facilitators from within and outside QPC. Sixteen participants completed a Basic AVP course, and sixteen participated in an Advanced AVP training workshop. As several QPC staff members were amongst the trainees, the Centre now has AVP facilitators available. Eleven participants participated an AVP Training for Faciliators workshop. Once enough facilitators have been trained, a structure will need to be put in place to coordinate future training sessions. It is logical for QPC to make AVP a central part of its work as it is in line with the Centre's strategic objectives.
